Looking for info on the deaths of Fred Hadley at Pennsboro and Arizona driver Larry Brandon. Hadley was killed at Pennsboro June 20, 1971. Brandon was killed at Manzanita Arizona during the running of the Western World LM Classic in 1979. Brandon moved to Arizona in 1976 from Ohio, where he used to race previously in Oio, Pa, and W. Va. Info needed for a future book.
Thanks - Bob Markos

Thanks for answering.
I need info on the Hadley incident, can't find much on it at all. Also some info on his career. I had seen he was a pretty consistant winner. I have all the info on the Brandon incident, but was wondering about his earlier racing in Ohio area?
Thanks - Bob

There is a website that you can find info on called Motorsport Memorial. Here is what was said about Brandon.
late model race]
Vehicle brand/model: Cevrolet Camaro
Note:
Born in Ohio, Larry Brandon competed in dirt tracks in his native state as well as in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before moving to Tucson, Arizona in 1976, where he continued to race.
On 21 April 1979 Brandon engaged in a late-model stock car race at the half-mile dirt oval Manzanita Speedway when he was involved in a fiery four-car accident. On lap 4 of the 50 lap main event, a car hit the wall on the backstretch and stalled. Brandon was alongside another car immediately behind and collided into the stalled car, the impact caused the fuel cell in the stalled car to burst into flames and be knocked from the chassis. By the time Brandon extricated himself from his Camaro, most of his firesuit had burned away.
Brandon received burns over ninety percent of his body; also injured was Jerry McCurdy, with fifteen percent of his body burned. The other two drivers were treated and released. A fire crew member was also hospitalized.
Taken to Maricopa County Burn Unit in Phoenix, Brandon succumbed from his injuries one month later. He was thirty-three-year old. Survived by his parents and three brothers, Brandon's body was taken back to Ohio for services.
I could not find anything on Hadley.

Does anyone remember Larry Brandon racing in WV/Ohio? Where was he from?
Fred Hadley must have caught the racing bug when they started racing at Pennsboro in the late 60's. I think him and maybe some brothers were in the logging business around Middleburne, WV. I know the car always was at the Weigle's General Store just outside of Middlebourne. Mr. Weigle was a one time promoter at Tyler Co. Speedway
Freddie won races at all the local tracks. Started out in a 1957 Chev.

| Fred Hadley, unfortunately, was the 1st driver to lose his life at what was then called the Ritchie Co. Speedway. There was a memorial race held in 1972, I remember hearing the radio ads for it when I was at Camp Kootaga that year. Everyone I ever met who knew Fred loved him. Years later, Bobby Bruce ran the #83 on his car for a couple of races @Skyline.

Thanks all so much for helping. I had been long aware of the Motorspots Memorial site, but strangely enough there is no info there on the Hadley incident. Also never found much in the trades back then. Was just wondering as stated about Brandon's racing back east before his move. In Arizona he was a highly regarded racer. Possibly if anyone runs across something sometime they could let me know.

Guys and gals,
If you know of anybody that has passed away that is not on the Motorsports Memorial please pm me. I'm talking with the gentleman that is the coordinator of the web-site because I'm adding a few my self inclueding Fred Hadley and others. This web-site is based out of Italy if you didn't already know that.
