Former driver Corky Dorko, sends one of the "Rat Racers" out to qualify. The "Rat Racers" were the idea of Jack Lemmo, son of promoter/announcer John Lemmo. Corky had driven at Sportsman Park and Cloverleaf before taking a job a track official with ARCA and Cloverleaf.  Corky's son Ray Dorko was a top Late Model driver in the 1990s.

Johnny Moore in his #64 1957 Chevrolet Convertible LM picking up another win at Cloverleaf Speedway.  Johnny was a track champion in the Late Model and Hardtop divisions and is among the leaders in most career wins at Cloverleaf.  His late brother, Jim Moore and Johnny were a formidable duo at Cloverleaf during the 1960s and 70s.  You either loved them or hated them, but they won a lot of races.

Huey Williams #21 and Ernie Wanner #34 get tangled up at the start/finish line at Cloverleaf back in the 1960s.  I think Sam DeCapite was also involved in this crash, but not shown in this picture.

Gary Albrittain gets pushed off by his crew, ready to race his Supermodified/Sprint car at Cloverleaf in the late 1960s.  His father, Don, was also there that night to race against his son.

Joe Premura of Garfield Hts, OH was one of the first big winners in the "Rat Racer" division with this 62 Chevy 327.  Since the Rat Racers were a claiming division at that time, rumors would spread that someone was going to claim the car and it seemed that Joe would have "mechanical problems".  Joe was a very good driver, but I don't remember him going much further than this division.  He wa a heck of racer, though

A view of Cloverleaf Speedway showing the turns 1-2 grandstands and part of the backstretch stands.  The track always drew people.  It was very close to a major highway (Route 21, which then became I-77) and located very near a large part of teh suburban towns of Garfield Hts, Maple Hts, Bedford, Independence, Parma, etc.  You would not be able to build a track today with the location of Cloverleaf Speedway.  My Mom's house in Garfield Hts was less than five miles from the track.  Some people complained about the noise and we did have a curfew that was strictly enforced by Valley View, but as for location, it couldn't have been better.

#27, the late Phil "Breezy" Schoenen collides with the #34 of Ernie Wanner as they trap the #62 (unknown) against the the wall.  Cloverleaf, although being a 1/4 mile track had plenty of room to race and offered plenty of action.  There were three grooves to try, if you dared.  Johnny Moore driving the Kunar #1 Impala made the most of that one season, winning 12 features.

Another shot of Bud Middaugh and his Chevrolet Impala.  I had hope to either buy this chassis or build one like it, but rules and classes changed and Bud sold the car to the Malcuits.  This car won everywhere.  Heidelberg, Midvale, Lorain, Cloverleaf, Canton, and probably more than I don't know about.  Bud was as smooth a driver as I ever saw, anywhere.  He just had a knack for starting in the back and working traffic to perfection.

Some action shots from an old Cloverleaf program.  Rudy Zeck was another fine driver, who didn't get a lot of ink, but got the job down in his own #11 Ford and in the Giachett Bros. #44

Bob Terlop picks up another win at Cloverleaf.  This is the car that Bob's brother and I started to put together to make our racing debut.  As drivers, we were good tire-changers.  Bob took over the car after a blown engine in his regular ride and we had a 3rd place points finish that year.
