The Central Excavating #81. Indy 500 car owned by Pete Salemi of Cleveland.  Thats the great Bill Vukovich at the wheel.  Salemi gave Bill Vukovich his first ride at the Indy 500.

Bob James' ride for the 1954 Season.  The Euclid Ford sponsored Ford/Lincoln owned by Skip Kraulock.  This car would be demolished by mid-season and replaced by a hump=backed 37 Ford sedan.  The change in cars never slowed those guys down.

Kenny Berends and the 545 Factory Stock Ford owned by his father, Chick and friend Paul Saro.  Kenny shared this ride with Gordie Donnelly and then moved to the 51 Ford, also owned by his father.  The 545 was acquired by Fred Boatman.

The "Katts Eye" wrecked at Sportsman Park.  The Kitty Katt team went through 7, yes SEVEN 37 Ford Coupes in 8 weeks.  Good to have Gust-Adolph Auto Wrecking as a sponsor.

Larry Dickson in the Polak Penske PC5 Cosworth at Indy.  Larry started out the season by shocking everyone with the 4th fastest time at Phoenix.  Larry qualfied 9th at Indy in the year old Ex-Tom Sneva car and ran well until motor gremlins appeared around the half-way point.  Larry went on to some good finishes at darmed near won the Pocono race.  The radio guys kept asking "who is this guy Larry Dickson?"  A fuel problem at the end moved Larry back to 5th place.  A concerted effort was being made to find additional sponsorship by ssharp, myself, the Fahlgren Agency and the guys at Valvoline, but it just didn't happen.  Just like today, if you have the money, you can go faster than someone who's broke!

This should bring back some good memories.  A full-house 8BA flathead.  The motor is in the restored racer of Tony Gullatta.  Look for some photos of the complete car, plus Tony's old Leffler, and some things he's working on now.  The man is a master mechanic and restoration specialist.

REMEMBERING TWO LEGENDS.

Mack Clingan and Bob James.  Two of the best that ever strapped into a race car and two guys who helped a young kid getting started in racing.  You are both missed greatly.
