Here's Larry Dickson in the TOMAX Silver Crown car, owned by brother Tommy and Max Britton.  What a great looking car and it ran well, too.

Damn this car looks big.  Did Tampa run Sliver Crown or is this a sprinter?

I think I should have pointed out that I was referring to the Trevis car at Tampa.  Sorry.

Rick, those old Trevis cars just looked big.  I think with the big tails and the nose that extented over the front axle made them look like that.

Everyone used to look forward to going to Tampa in February and running the IMCA races down there that were run at the State Fairgrounds and were a part of the Florida State Fair for years.  In those days IMCA, USAC and URC all ran without roll cages.  And in those days (during the 60's) USAC, IMCA, URC and the CRA on the west coast were the four big sprint car sanctioning bodies in the country.

I believe there is a new Fairgrounds in Tampa now and the old one, where the races used to be held, is either on the property or very close to the property where the Bucanneers football stadium is today.

#80 Car Owner, Russ Polak, our new STA-ON CAR GLAZE sponsor, old Den, and Gordon Van Liew, owner of Vita-Fresh Orange Juice (orange suit), an early sponsor and owner of one of Larry's first Indy 500 rides and a long-time supporter of both Larry and other up-an-coming Indy 500 drivers.  Unfortunately, when the big money came into the sport, it forced sportsman like Van Liew out of the sport.  A great guy.

Didn't J.D. Leas take a helluva tumble in Florida?  Seems someone told me it was in Lakeland, although that may be my old memory letting me down.  Seems he was in a coma for a week or so.

You're right the old Florida fair gounds track was right at I-4 and I-75, but there's no football stadium it's a open amphitheatre.  I just saw Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick last week there.

You know you're getting old when groups like that are considered "oldies".

Rock on.
